Socialization through creation

Inclusive centre no. 1 Oradea participated into a grant competition for school development and won funds for the `Treasure in my heart`. The general objective of the project is to socialize 123 pupils with special needs from Special school no. 1, by organizing educative-instructive activities, in school and outside it, between July- December 2007.

Among the activities within the project, we have the 5 creation workshops: music, dance, theatre, art handy crafts, ecology, cover a large part of the activities for the period October to December 2007.

In the mentioned activities 70 children in first grades were involved, coordinated by specialized teachers of the school and 9 pupils from normal 8 years school George Cosbuc, Oradea.

The Arts and decorations workshop had as main theme to make `some treasures` from wool, beads, and clay. Some other 2 applicative themes resulted from it: `the treasure around me` and `my jewelry - my treasure`.

In this creation workshop the 16 pupils, coordinated by educator Liliana Sarb decorated some utility objects (boxes, bottles and glasses), they created masks (animals), hand-making of objects from clay; each pupil involved in creating some special workings.

By all this activities we follow to involve pupils in activities with a practical side in order to develop their professional skills in folkloric crafts, to introduce the new materials of work to them and of course to develop their taste of beauty.

An important outcome is that following these activities, one of the students said he would like to manufacture baskets. `I want to weave wattle baskets, it is not very difficult in the way as I was taught!` (said Ionut).

Taking part into creation workshops, pupils develop oral communication skills and relating with others, practical work skills, can discover themselves and can identify what aims can be accomplished with their possibilities; also an significant element gained by them is increasing self-trust.
